PROGRAM PARTNER SPOTLIGHT – BGC INFINITY

Coach Jim DeLarme, PGA delivers our program weekly to children at the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County – Infinity Club. They play golf, run relay races and enjoy the afternoon outside with their peers. Our Chapter partners with after-school programming providers to bring golf to children that may have not otherwise have the opportunity to learn the game of golf and inherent life skills that the game teaches seamlessly. Thank you to all our trained Coaches and program partners for making a difference in our community.

CONGRATS PARTICIPANT, VOLUNTEER, AND COACH OF THE YEAR

Participant of the Year: Katie Harwood is an ACE level participant at Crane Watch Club with Coach Bo Bachelor. She has been in the First Tee program for 8 years and volunteers her time back to the younger children in the PLAYER class. Katie is a senior at Martin County High School and is excited to attend college in the fall. 

Volunteer of the Year: Anthony Graham is a dedicated volunteer at Fairwinds Golf Course assisting Coach Willie Scott and Mark Cammarene, PGA. He has been volunteering with First Tee programs for over 2 years. 

Coach of the Year: Willie Scott is our Lead Coach at Fairwinds Golf Course. He leads Saturday morning programs and also coaches veterans and First Tee programs at the Boys & Girls Club of St. Lucie County and many other outreach programs. Willie enjoys working with his fellow veterans and the many children and teens in his First Tee programs.

MISSION UNITED MONTHLY GOLF OUTING

Three of our veterans are invited each month for an 18-hole round hosted by veteran outreach director, Jack Bloomfield. Last month’s event was played at The Club at Weston Hills in Weston, FL. Veteran participants were Scott Siegel, Robert Enquist, and Kevin Bolender (pictured above). Scott was able to play all 18 holes despite losing 90% of his eyesight many years ago.

Special thanks to Weston Hills Director of Golf, Jonathan Banas, for hosting this event.

Our veterans’ programs are made possible by a generous grant from the Harry T. Mangurian Jr. Foundation.

FREE GAINBRIDGE JUNIOR CLINIC – BECOME A STANDARD BEARER

Join us as the LPGA returns to Boca Raton for the Gainbridge LPGA Junior Clinic!

The clinic gives the chance for local kids and teens ages 5-18 years old to learn about the game of golf from some of the best female golfers in the world!

Participation is FREE and each registrant will receive two (2) complimentary tickets to the Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio Golf Club valid any day January 27th -30th.

Children and teens will learn chipping, driving, putting and golf etiquette from top LPGA players and local professionals! The junior clinic will be held at Osprey Point Golf Course from 3:00pm-4:30pm on January 24th, 2022.

Osprey Point’s address is 12551 Glades Rd, Boca Raton, FL 33498.

All students must register online to attend the clinic.

Gainbridge Youth Standard Bearer:

Standard Bearers carry the scoreboard for each group during tournament play. Parents/Adults can accompany during the round.

Free registration for all Youth Standard Bearers. Volunteer package comes with one (1) Official Tournament Golf Polos, one (1) Official Tournament Hat or Visor, Official Tournament Volunteer Pin, Volunteer Badge acts as Weekly Grounds Pass and two (2) additional Weekly Grounds Passes.

Students and golfers ages 13 and older can register online for the Standard Bearer committee.

The Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio runs from January 24 – 30, 2022 and is held at Boca Rio Golf Club and will feature one hundred-twenty of the best female golfers in the world. For tickets or more information, please visit the Gainbridge LPGA website.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS PARTNERSHIP

Our Special Olympics program conducted its ninth and final week of programming in December.

Twelve Special Olympics athletes participated in this program funded by Spirit Airlines to First Tee- Broward.

Coaches in group photo (above left) Greg Mingo, James Rondeau and Robert Ferzoco conducted the program at the Grand Palms Hotel-Spa and Golf Resort.

All Special Olympic athletes in need of golf equipment were given their own bag of clubs.

TONS OF FUN AT THE END OF YEAR BASH

It has been two years since Chapter students, supporters, coaches, staff, veterans and parents could all get together. In December, we had a record crowd at the Finnegan Learning Center in Dyer Park at our end of the year bash. The celebration included:

• A session on tempo from the Jupiter High Drum Line- pictured above left.
• LPGA Tour player and Chapter Director Marina Alex hitting a few shots and answering student questions about what it takes to make it on tour- pictured above middle.
• Games for the kids and Trackman for the high school students- pictured above right.
• Delicious burgers, chicken, hot dogs and mac and cheese!
• Billy Reid receiving Participant of the Year Honors- pictured below left.
• Billy signing his letter of intent to play college golf in the Fall at Keiser University- pictured below right.
