Steven Henchel, U.S. Navy, has been playing golf for the past 5 years and has just started golf programs with our chapter.
When talking about his experience in our programs, he said: “I am so glad that something like this exists. It was such a fantastic opportunity to bond with other service members and really dig in and learn the sport. The coaches were extremely knowledgeable, patient, and attentive. There were so many little things I was able to change about my game, and a few big things that have made a tremendous difference. I went from shooting an average of 135 per game to just under 100. I am very grateful.”
This program is generously sponsored by The Harry T. Mangurian, Jr. Foundation.
Coaches Greg Mingo and Robert Ferzoco began teaching our four week program with Special Olympics – Florida this summer. Twelve athletes meet each Thursday for class at the Pembroke Lakes Golf and Racquet Club in Pembroke Pines.
Each participant received a putter, driver, and short iron to practice with to improve their skills outside of class.
This is the third year in a row that we have offered free golf programs to Special Olympic athletes.
Thank you to Spirit Airlines for their continued support of our special needs community.
Special SHOUT OUT to Michelle Leonardo – Manager, Sports Administration of Special Olympics Florida, Broward County.
