Country Club of Florida Ladies

Senior Program Director Emily Valentine and Director of Operations Darrell Bock, PGA accepted a grant of $5,000 from The Country Club of Florida Ladies Association.  The ladies conducted a charity day in February and chose First Tee – Palm Beaches as the beneficiary. Special thank you to CCFL member, Sherry Fleming, for organizing our participation and the club staff for a great day of golf!

Maria Marino Inducted

Congrats to our board member and Palm Beach County Commissioner Maria Marino for being inducted into the 2024 class of the Palm Beach County Sports Hall of Fame.

In her induction speech, Maria thanked golf for opening the doors that have led her to a career of success and philanthropic work.

In 1977, after years of covering local sports, veteran sportswriter Chuck Otterson decided the time was right to formally recognize the accomplishments of area athletes. The Palm Beach County Sports Commission has been involved with this event since 2004, developing it into the successful program it is today.

ESPN Junior Course Reporter

This year, Isabella Rubio was chosen to represent our Chapter as an ESPN Junior Course Reporter at the tournament.  Guided by ESPN’s sports anchor Theo Dorsey, Isabella explored the media side of behind the scenes at the tournament. She learned the intricacies of event reporting. Together, they followed golf star Ricky Fowler.  Isabella even had the fun opportunity to film some B-roll for a broadcast later in the day.

Jahsiah In The Senate

Chapter student, Jahsiah Bowie, was honored to serve as a Page for a week in the Florida State Senate.

The Senate Page Program offers participants the opportunity to learn about the legislative process in Florida through a hands-on approach to civic learning. Pages role-play as Senators, develop ideas for new laws, draft legislation, and file bills. The week culminates with a mock session in which bills are debated and voted on by Senate Pages. Additionally, Senate Pages assist members of the Florida Senate by distributing legislative materials and correspondence in the Senate Chamber while observing the Senators as they discuss and debate legislation. Pages also lead the Pledge of Allegiance during session, enjoy guest speakers, and participate in educational tours and activities.

ACE – Game-Planning For The Future

Join our Ace Program! Ace is an additional capstone program built for teens to help them game-plan what’s next. It integrates the skills and inner strengths they’ve developed at First Tee and points them toward exploring, investing in, and building a clear plan and assets for their next step. In 2024, there will be 7-10 “ACE Days” that will take place during a day off of school where students will gather to complete projects and play golf. This is a program that is a benefit to your eligible students and is in addition to your already existing First Tee program. Students must be 16 years old and an active participant in our program for at least 3 years.
