VETERAN SPOTLIGHT – GEORGE TAYLOR

George Taylor, U.S. Navy Veteran, has been playing golf for 24 years. He joined our 8-week program at Eagle Trace – Coral Springs. 

When asked about his experience at the program, he said, “My time at the golf program with First Tee was a great instructional experience. I was invited to apply to attend the this veterans’ program by a friend who promised me that I would enjoy the comradery, and golf instruction that First Tee provides to the veterans. He was right! The coaches, John, Pat, and Julian were exceptionally patient, and their knowledge of the game was amazing. My thanks to First Tee and Jack Bloomfield for organizing a wonderful program for veterans.”

ROYAL PALM HOSTS ANNUAL TOURNEY

Our annual golf tournament will be held on Monday, October 10th at Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club. Sponsorships are now available for the event. 

The schedule consists of noon lunch and warm-up with a 1pm shotgun start. The competition will be playing your own ball, no scramble, with a limited field. One best ball of the foursome in both net and gross divisions. Dinner and drinks are to follow.

CMAA 100 – HOLE CHALLENGE TIME! WHO IS IN?

Our annual CMAA 100 – Hole Challenge is underway!

Day 1 is Monday, August 8th at Coral Springs Country Club.
Day 2 is Monday, August 15th at Lago Mar Country Club
We will be adding two additional locations.

Last year we had 63 players and raised $100,000 with over 900 donors to support the thousands of children and veterans in our Broward County programs. Our goal this year is to raise $120,000. We currently stand at $23,000 raised from over 200 donors.

CHAPTER WELCOMES TWO PGA PROFESSIONALS TO COACHING NETWORK

Bob Mallek, PGA, is a 25+ year veteran of the PGA of America. He is now teaching full time at Emerald Hills and will be offering First Tee programs several days a week. Bob has developed over 35,000 new golf students and coached several young players into college golf scholarships. He has authored two golf instruction books and hosted TV golf instruction programs in Chicago for several years.

Jess Frank, PGA, owner of Jess Frank Golf Academy at Deer Creek C.C., is well-renowned for his skill as a golf instructor and will be offering First Tee programs multiple days per week. His #1 passion is to help people play better golf.

SUMMER OUTREACH AT DEERFIELD PARKS AND RECREATION

We are starting our summer outreach program with new partner Deerfield Parks and Recreation. The 8 sessions will run Mondays from 1:00pm-3:00pm in July and August.

Coach Robert Ferzoco is leading the class along with the help of many of the camp counselors from the recreation center. Special thanks to Leandro Barbosa, Deerfield Parks and Recreation Manager, for his help in organizing the program.

SUMMER CAMP AT THE CLUB AT WESTON HILLS

The Club at Weston Hills is running summer camps all summer through August 12th.
The camps are from Tuesday-Friday from 9:00am-12:00pm.

SAILFISH POINT HOSTS ANNUAL TOURNEY

Sailfish Point has completed an extensive renovation and re-design of their golf course with Nicklaus Design. 

“The new golf course is simply spectacular,” said Chapter Executive Director Carl Mistretta. “We are so thankful to the members and staff and very excited they are hosting our tournament on their new course.”

TREASURE COAST HOMESCHOOL OPEN HOUSE

Chapter staff recently attended the Treasure Coast Homeschool Open House. We had the chance to interact with homeschooling families while sharing all the opportunities the First Tee offers. COVID resulted in many families moving to and staying with home schooling. Home school students have an opportunity to schedule First Tee programs as a PE option with our Chapter.

ARC PARTICIPANTS ATTEND WESTSIDE GOLF COMPLEX

Over 20 special needs participants from The Arc attend weekly summer outings at our Westside Golf Complex. Coach Ben Miller, PGA delivers golf lessons, games and fun to the participants. ARC promotes and protects the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and actively supports their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes.

SAILFISH SANDS HOSTS YMCA STUART VETERANS PROGRAM

We have just begun a new partnership with the YMCA Stuart to deliver golf programs to veterans at the newly renovated Sailfish Sands golf course (formerly Martin County Golf Course). Golf is a great way for local veterans to connect with each other while enjoying outdoor recreation. Chapter Coach Ben Miller, PGA is conducting the weekly clinics for the vets. The YMCA is a leading non-profit committed to strengthening community by connecting all people to their potential, purpose and each other.

THE NICKLAUS NAME = GOLF & MUSIC

Treasure Coast Chapter Director and singer/songwriter Wes Hightower visited with GT Nicklaus and his father and professional golfer, Gary Nicklaus (pictured above left). They listened to GT’s music and talked about GT’s singing and writing career and trends in the music industry. 

GT is a rising singer and songwriter with incredible talent. He is also a great golfer.
