A Gift For The Els School

Chapter Coach Joel Zanville’s daughter and son-in-law visited the Els Center of Excellence.  They were so impressed with the school that they gifted a bench located in The Sensory Garden for Coach Joel’s birthday. The pair was inspired by our First Tee Coaches conducting the golf program at the Els Center and by seeing firsthand all that is done for students on the autism spectrum. Thank you Coach Joel for all the hard work you do for our students.

 TimberTech Media Day

We recently renovated our 3,000 square foot deck at the Finnegan Learning Center in Dyer Park.  The project consisted of replacing old joists and the complete replacement of the decking material.  TimberTech sponsored the project and donated over $40,000 in decking and hardware.

In preparation for the TimberTech Championship to be held at Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club, the Media Day for the tournament was held at our facility on the new deck.  Representatives from TimberTech, the golf tournament, and the Boca Raton Regional Hospital were present and spoke about the importance of the tournament.

Ken Duke (pictured with Chapter students and alumni), a Champions Tour player, spoke about his season and the tournament being held at Royal Palm while the Old Course at Broken Sound is under construction this year. As the semi-final event in the Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs, the TimberTech Championship will welcome the top 54 players on the PGA TOUR Champions to Boca Raton October 31st – November 1st.

Chapter student Davis Lucas (pictured in red) will serve as the Junior Ambassador for the TimberTech Championship. After the Media Day, Ken Duke watched Davis hit some balls and helped him with some swing tips.

The prize package also includes $1,500 towards airfare, trip expenses, etc. Certain restrictions apply. Drawing to be held February 27, 2023.  Veteran Spotlight

Alfredo Perez, U.S. Army, started playing golf in 2017. He joined our 8-week program at Weston Hills Country Club.

When talking about his experience at our 8-week program, he said: “First Tee has given me the opportunity to learn how to play golf. I feel confident enough to play at any golf course with the skills I have learned from the First Tee – Broward coaches. I would like to personally thank all the sponsors and donors that have make this program possible to veterans. Without them there would be no program for us to participate in.”

Are you a veteran or know of a veteran interested in registering for one of our free programs? Please contact [email protected].

Our veterans’ programs are generously funded by The Harry T. Mangurian, Jr. Foundation.
